Drummer Makaya McCraven and guitarist Shane Parish (Ahleuchatistas) join forces for an improvised collaboration bridging noise rock, jazz, and everything in-between. Both McCraven and Parish are powerful improvisers, and they brought us the first-ever totally improvised Stars Align session.
McCraven, called one of Chicago’s most “in-demand drummers” by the Chicago Reader, seamlessly shifts from jazz in one breath to hip hop or house in the next. Parish, both in his solo work and as part of Ahleuchatistas, brings the drive and intensity of rock to a swelling, flowing songwriting style. He’s no stranger to improvisation either.
Coming to the stage without ever having met before, the International Anthem artists reflect throughout the show on how improvisation is really just a musical conversation.
